My Vision

Use perspective

I have had two roles in the public education system: parent and teacher.  I was a classroom teacher; I have worked with many administrators, helped to develop, and implement curriculum and used many forms of assessment and evaluation.  In the role as your trustee, I want to use this knowledge and experience to guide policy making.  I have seen firsthand how policies and directives affect our students and how our schools work.  I can speak to this when these decisions are being made.

Be your voice

My goal is to be the voice that ensures the Board’s policies reflect our students’ well-being and achievements. This will involve listening to and speaking with EG and Georgina families so that I can get a clear picture of the priorities and needs for each community.

I will help parents and students navigate the public school system – it can be overwhelming!

Build a new foundation

Participate as a member of the Board of Trustees in the selection of a new director in 2023.  The pandemic has taken a toll on staff, students and parents. This past year saw an exodus of staff at all levels who went elsewhere, resigned or retired.  We need to look at why this happened and how we are going to attract strong leaders, educators and support staff. This starts at the top.  We need an inspiring director who makes it a priority to build positive relationships with and fosters confidence and wellness in all staff.  This director needs to understand the complexities and needs of the North.  This director needs to look toward the future to ensure our students are receiving the best quality education.

Support YRDSB’s reputation as a leader in terms of initiatives (i.e.  equity). However, I do believe that it needs a refresh – with new voices at the table who can re-examine and look for ways to improve these initiatives.  This may include reducing the number as there are so many; it can be overwhelming for staff and the community to stay on top of these.

Listen and advocate

Advocate for a secondary school to be established in East Gwillimbury.  Students need to have their own community secondary school.

Promote the value of agricultural and trade skills by advocating for more access to and availability of programs for our rural areas.

Let the citizens of EG and Georgina know that I am listening.  Please share your thoughts, suggestions and concerns because I want to support you and your children.
